Irrigation 101
Irrigation is about how much and when. If we get our irrigation right, we benefit in terms of disease pressure, quality, yield, and more. The reality is irrigation is hard. No one says that better than Blake Sanden at UCCE. He’s been mentoring us for years on ET scheduling. We know we can do better!
The key awareness for getting irrigation right is reconciling planned to actual irrigation. Expressing this is in flow and application rate enables accurate response to crop demand, weather extremes and system performance.
- How much water can we get down in an 8-hour shift or 12-hour overtime shift?
- How does my application late over time compared to design rate?
- Does application rate satisfy peak season demand?
- What water deployment levers are available in response to labor or climate?
